SKN under Flashflood Watch

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – ST. KITTS AND NEVIS has been placed under flash flood watch.

Since yesterday afternoon (Oct. 31) there has been steady rainfall in some areas which continued into today with a particularly heavy downpour that took place mid-afternoon.

A bulletin issued by the St. Kitts Meteorological Office explained that the Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Service implemented the watch for the “low lying and flood prone areas” of several islands, including the British Virgin Islands and St. Kitts and Nevis.

According to this morning’s weather forecast, a low pressure area is continuing to cause unsettled weather conditions across parts of the Caribbean, with a high chance of thunderstorms.

Not much rain has been recorded last evening (0.47 inches) and SKNVibes understands that the rainfall for today has yet to be collated.

Nonetheless, the flash flood watch, according to the Met Office’s bulletin, is in effect from 2:00 p.m. until 10:00 a.m. tomorrow.

“A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead to moderate to major flooding in low lying and flood prone areas.”

It is advised that the weather forecast is monitored and take the necessary precautions to guard against loss property, life or limb in the event that a flash flood does take place.
