Beware of criminals new tactics

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A St. Peter’s woman was startled from her sleep a couple of nights ago by a loud pounding on her front door by an individual whom she believed intention was not honourable.

Superintendent of Police with Responsibility for District ‘A’, Cromwell Henry confirmed the incident to SKNVibes.

“The police received reports from a female in the St. Peter’s area that in the wee hours of the morning (Nov. 2) around 3:00 a.m., there was a knocking at her door. She answered but the individual did not identify his or herself.

“She called the police, the police responded, made a search of the area and did not find or see anyone. The person was not able to get into the house. The lady did not open the door and thank God that she didn’t.”

The Superintendent admonished all to err on the side of caution and not open their doors to anyone unless they could ascertain the person’s identity.

“The police wish to advise the public, especially male or female who live alone, that they should not open their doors at any time without first satisfying themselves as to the identity of the person who is calling.”

Making its rounds on social media is information which suggests that ill-intentioned individuals are entering people’s yards, turning on the water pipe with the hope that the resident would venture to the outside to shut the pipe off. It is further suggested that at that point, the ill-intentioned individual would launch an attack on the resident.

The Senior Officer said he is aware of the “water pipe tactic” information and although the police had receive no such report, it is a good idea for individuals to be warned of that ploy.

“We have not received any report of that nature in St. Kitts or Nevis. But it is good warning for us nonetheless, that if you hear anything unusual in your yards at night that you cannot verify and you cannot be certain of what it is, do not venture outside to investigate unless you know it is absolutely safe to do so.”

Persons who are made aware of suspicious activity are asked to contact the nearest police station.
