BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AS gun violence continues unabatedly in St. Kitts and Nevis, two persons are in police custody following a shooting incident that took place early this morning (Nov. 6) in the vicinity of Fiennes Avenue and Cayon Street.

A press release from the Public Relations Office of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force states that the incident, “shooting at with intent”, occurred at about 2:20 a.m. and members of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) are investigating.

It also states that initial investigations revealed that an occupant of a vehicle was shot at by an assailant while making a stop in the area.

Fortunately, however, no one was injured and the scene was canvassed for items of evidential value by investigators from the CID and technicians from the Forensic Services Unit.

Only recently there have been a number of shooting incidents which resulted in the death of three people and injuries to two others.

The first was that of 39-year-old Marlon Mills of Sandy Point.

At about 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday (Oct. 25), while Mills and a female companion were in a white rental motorcar parked in the vicinity of the Methodist Church in St. Johnston Village, a gunman had reportedly exited a black motorcar on Cardin Avenue and shot him to his head.

Mills died at the scene and his female companion, who was in the front passenger seat, was shot once to the leg and taken to the JNF General Hospital.

Subsequently, Dwight ‘Mac 11’ Jacobs of Buckley’s Estate was charged with Mills’ murder and shooting at the slain man’s companion with intent.

Less than four hours after Mills’ death, 20-year-old Zennick McSheen of Cayon was shot and killed at the junction of Big Show Alley and the Island’s Main Road in Ottley’s Village.

Two days later, 29-year-old Chadin Buchanan of Boyd’s Village was shot multiple times to both legs while he was on Wingfield Road, Old Road. He was transported to the JNF Hospital where he was treated for his injuries.

And sometime after 7:00 p.m. on Friday (Oct. 28), while Arlene Nisbett Seymour Liburd were about to make a deposit for one of their customers at the Wellington Road branch of the Royal Bank of Canada, one or more armed bandits opened fire in their direction in an attempt to rob them.

Nisbett was shot to both legs and her stomach while Liburd was shot to his legs. The couple was transported to the JNF Hospital where Nisbett succumbed to her injuries early the following morning.
