Basseterre, St. Kitts, November 14, 2016 (SKNIS): The Ministry of International Trade, Industry, Commerce and Consumer Affairs has joined in the celebration of Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW), which according to the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, “is the world’s largest celebration of the innovators and job creators who launch startups that bring ideas to life, drive economic growth, and expand human welfare.”

In his address for the November 14 to 19 event, Minister of International Trade, Industry, Commerce and Consumer Affairs, Honourable Lindsay Grant, recognized the host of Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) SKN, the Caribbean Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Livelihoods, and key strategic partners, which include the Ministry of Youth, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College; the UWI Open Campus; the Development Bank of St. Kitts & Nevis, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank and the Junior Achievement.

“As partners working together this week to highlight entrepreneurs and entrepreneurial activities in St. Kitts & Nevis, our Ministry will continue to work to support entrepreneurs and entrepreneurial activities which will accelerate growth, job creation and sustainable development in our country,” said the minister, stressing the importance of becoming entrepreneurs, not just employees.

The schedule of activities includes a round table discussion on Developing the Entrepreneurial Mindset on Monday 14; on Tuesday 15, Start dem Young: School to Work Transition through Entrepreneurship; Wednesday 16, Importance of Mentoring; Thursday 17, Developing Leaders through Entrepreneurship in Nevis, Friday 18, Hitting the Market – Focus on High Value Agriculture (trade fair) – Agripreneurs Buzz; and on Saturday 19, GEW Closing Reception.

The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation states that during the celebration thousands of events and competitions around the world inspire millions to engage in entrepreneurial activity, while connecting them to potential collaborators, mentors, and even investors.

Created in 2008, Global Entrepreneurship Week has expanded to more than 160 countries.

Each year, it empowers roughly 25 million people through more than 25,000 activities, and is supported by dozens of world leaders and a network of 10,000 partner organizations.
