Late payment reminder for property tax

By: Inland Revenue Department, Press Release

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, November 16th 2016  -- The Inland Revenue Department extends gratitude to all of its customers who have met their legal obligations to the Federation over the years by paying their property taxes on time. In doing this, you have made a significant contribution towards building our nation.

The Department is committed to working with its customers to ensure that they are paying the ‘right amount of tax at the right time’ and in turn avoid paying additional amounts in fines, interest and penalty charges. In this regard, the Department wishes to advise the general public that the due date for Property Tax 2016 has passed. Therefore, there is an imposition of a one-time late payment penalty of 10% and an interest charge of 1% monthly of the tax due for payments made after June 30th.

The Department has employed a series of compliance measures that include the dissemination of late payment reminders to encourage its customers to pay; avoiding further charges in the form of interest and penalties. The late payment reminders reflect balances for 2016 only; however, arrears for prior years are still due and payable. Where taxes remain unpaid after the due date the Department may be forced to take other measures as outlined in the Tax Administration Laws.

The Department understands that each of its customers may be affected by different financial challenges and has developed feasible and flexible payment plans for all of its customers. We therefore encourage all of our customers who are in arrears to visit the Department so that a payment arrangement can be made based upon your unique circumstances.

For any additional information and enquiries kindly contact the Inland Revenue Department, at 465-8485 or email us at inlandrevenue@sknird.com, or visit our website www.sknird.com/taxlibrary.

The Department further wishes to take this opportunity to thank the general public for their continued cooperation and support.

The Inland Revenue Department is charged with administering the tax laws of the Federation in an efficient and equitable manner, to promote voluntary compliance to maximize Revenue for the development of the Federation at the least cost to the public and in a manner that warrants the highest degree of Public confidence in our integrity, efficiency and fairness.

The Inland Revenue Department is the premier revenue collections agency for the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis within the Ministry of Finance, located at Bay Road, Basseterre, and Charlestown, St. Kitts and Nevis.
