BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - WITH the Soca Competition scheduled to get underway on Thursday (Nov. 24), Shanna Kay Raymond has kicked off a school tour to promote her Carnival entry – ‘Gypsy’ - which is geared towards children.

The very classy Raymond, who is known for her hip movements and on classical stage performances, opened her tour yesterday (Nov. 21) at the Verchild’s High School.

According to her Manageress, Treasa Wyatt, Raymond is looking to visit at least eight schools on St. Kitts for her tour, including Basseterre High School which would be visited tomorrow (Nov. 23).

She is hopeful of making a stop at the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC) during her visits.

Giving an insight of the tour, Wyatt said that Raymond’s song, ‘Gypsy’, is a motivational one for children, and that in penning it she highlighted that she would do a “school tour” to talk about the meaning of the lyrics and what it means to her.

“While doing the school tour she is also giving a motivational speech about believing in yourself and accomplishing all your goals. During today’s (yesterday) speech, Raymond encouraged them to stay in school. She also gave away prizes for the different subject areas.”

Wyatt disclosed that Raymond’s love for children and the struggles she faced in life were the impetus for penning the lyrics of that song, which she is expected to sing at the Soca Competition.

The Manageress revealed that the young and energetic Raymond is currently in the process of having the song entered in this year’s Children Road March.

“She signed up this song...this is not a one-off song but just that it is dedicated to this year’s Children Carnival section.”

When asked how her protégé feels about entering the Soca Competition with ‘Gypsy’, Wyatt exclaimed, “She is very confident!”

“This song is very catchy and regular. People love the meaning behind it and they are asking who is Shanola, what does Shanola mean? She is getting a lot of reviews and is confident that it would be chosen  as the song for Children’s Carnival. It is very popular amongst the children and it is getting a lot of play on the airwave.”
