Leader of the Opposition signs Castro condolence book

    BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS – Leader of the Opposition, the Right Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas visited the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba Wednesday morning and signed the Book of Condolence in Remembrance of the late iconic Cuban Revolutionary Leader, His Excellency Dr. Fidel Castro Ruiz. Castro died Friday night at the age of 90.

     

    Dr. Douglas, who served as the Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis from July 3rd 1995 to February 16th 2015 was a close friend of the late Cuban leader, having visited Havana on numerous occasions on State Visits and attended meetings of Regional and Hemispheric importance.

    Dr. Douglas was greeted at the Embassy of Cuba by Cuba’s Resident Ambassador His Excellency Hugo Ruiz Cabrera and his wife.

    “I salute him. I saluted him when he was alive. I salute him today on his death. He has been a true revolutionary and has caused, pursued and had the vision to bring into being tremendous permanent changes in the lives of people, not only in the Caribbean but around the entire world especially in Africa. It is really a pity that we have lost him, but I believe that his life and what it has meant to all of us, especially those young people here in St. Kitts and Nevis who have had the opportunity to be trained un Cuba, would have impacted them for the rest of their lives,” said Dr. Douglas on Freedom FM’s popular “Issues” programme on Wednesday afternoon.
