Dr. Drew planning Forum on Crime and Violence in Cayon

By: Erasmus Williams, Press Release

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS – A call for a forum on crime and criminal activity in the town of Cayon has come from the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) caretaker for St. Christopher 8, Dr. Terrance Drew.

Dr. Drew complimented the Cayon High School for organising the recent March against Crime and Violence through the streets of Cayon.

He praised the Cayon High School students for the lead role they played in organising the event.

Dr. Drew said in his discussion with the young people they expressed a high level of hopelessness.

“The feelings of our young people are beyond hopelessness,” said Dr. Drew, who appealed to persons who make a serious effort to reduce and resolve the high crime wave to have frequent conversations with the youth.

“One of the young people’s told me that he was not sure how much longer he was going to live. This really touched me and it was painful to see and hear another human being tell me that he is almost certain that his life will end violently,” said Dr. Drew.

In a call to the people of St. Kitts and Nevis and specifically to Cayon which has had a high level of murders, Dr. Drew joined the National Political Leader of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party and former Prime Minister the Right Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas for a national forum on crime.

“Dr. Douglas has not received a response from Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris or the Government, I am issuing a call for a forum on crime and violence to be held in Cayon very soon,” announced Dr. Drew, who said it was important for all in the community to become involved.

“I am calling and I am asking on the Parliamentary Representative, Hon. Eugene Hamilton to join me in this effort to bring the Cayon community together to discuss in this forum with all stakeholders and community members the serious issue of crime and violence,” he added.

Dr. Drew called on pastors, teachers, professional men and women as well as students, tradesmen, laboiurers and all in the community of Cayon to get together and discus this issue of crime and violence.

He will begin meeting with stakeholders to discuss the issues in setting a date for the forum.
