CASTRIES, St. Lucia - A number of events took place over the weekend in St. Lucia which led to the opening of that island’s annual Carnival yesterday (June 1) at Mindoo Phillip Park.

The opening was followed by the customary Line Jam, which serves as a warm-up for Carnival revellers.

A press and sponsors’ launch was also held on Friday (May 29), where the police outlined a strategic plan for the safety of persons attending the Carnival, making it better and bigger this year.

The Carnival will also feature a host of events and shows leading all the way down to July 21 while 15 bands are registered to parade the streets on July 20 and 21.

Among those artistes who will be performing at the St. Lucia Carnival and have released their tunes are: Platinum George with ‘Funny’; Teddyson John singing ‘Wine if you wining’; Nicole David with ‘Release de Tiger’; and reigning Soca Monarch and Road March winner Ricky T singing ‘Like a Jumbie’

Meanwhile, this weekend will see the launch of calypso tents starting with the biggest, The Ambassadors.
