    Roadtown, Tortola - Cabinet recently approved the appointments and re-appointments of 15 members to serve on the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College (HLSCC) Board of Governors for a three-year period.

     

    Providing support to the Chairman of the Board Dr. Charles Wheatley will be four new appointees, the Minister for Education and Culture Honourable Andrew Fahie, Messrs. Carvin Malone, Roy Barry and Cromwell Smith. 

     

    Other members who have been re-appointed include Mrs. Eileene L. Parsons, Dr. Joel Stevens, Messrs. Lester Hyman, Jamal Smith, Derek Dunlop, Robert Mathavious, Elton Georges, Dr. Henry Jarecki, Member of Faculty (HLSCC) and Member of Staff (Elmore Stoutt High School).

     

    With the exception of the chairman, the appointments are retroactive to January 2, 2009.  The chairman’s appointment is retroactive to November 1, 2007.

     

    Among other duties, the functions of the board are to manage, conduct and supervise the activities of the HSLCC; determine the salaries, terms and conditions of all employees of the college and of the board, and to inquire into and adjudicate upon disciplinary charges against students or members of the staff of the college.

     

    The H. Lavity Stoutt Community College Act, 1990 provides for a Board of Governors of not less than 12 members to be appointed by the minister from among persons of proven capacity in matters relating to the aim of the college and who are likely to contribute to its further development.
