Police have second robbery accused in custody

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – ONCE again members of the public have come in for high praise from the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, as information provided have resulted in the apprehension of the second suspect involved in the early Saturday morning (De. 17) robbery at the Basseterre Ferry Terminal.

     

    According to a police communiqué, the suspect was arrested yesterday (Dec. 18) without incident and “the police thank the general public for the information provided in locating the suspect”.

    However, they have not stated if charges were preferred against the two accused.

    Information reaching this publication, which was confirmed by the police, had stated that sometime after 3:00 a.m. on Saturday while a young man was at the Ferry Terminal waiting to board a St. Maarten bound vessel to shop for the Christmas/Carnival Season, two bandits had robbed him of an undisclosed sum of money.

    Police had stated that a bystander had observed when the man was being robbed. 

    The public-spirited bystander went to the young man’s rescue and the bandits fled the scene, but not before wounding the victim with a sharp object and depriving him of his money.
     
    This media house understands that the young man was taken to the JNF General Hospital, where he was treated for his injury and sent away.

    However, both bandits were identified and sometime during the course of that day police had one of them in custody assisting with their investigations.

    Consequently, police issued a wanted bulletin for his accomplice whose name was give Clinton Rohan Matthew, also known as 'Sauce' or 'Rebel'.

    On being informed of the incident, Commissioner of Police Ian Queeley had offered commendations to the bystander for his humane action.

    “I would like to commend the individual who came to the assistance of the gentleman being robbed. Your action dearly demonstrated the spirit of community...people looking out and taking care of each other. I commend you.”
