BVI, 22 December 2016 - Premier of the Virgin Islands, Dr. the Hon. D. Orlando Smith OBE, yesterday extended congratulations to the new Premier of the Turks and Caicos Islands, the Honourable Sharlene Cartwright-Robinson.
Premier Smith in a phone call to the new Premier congratulated Honourable Cartwright–Robinson on her historic achievement. Premier Smith also extended his congratulations to the members of the People’s Democratic Movement (PDM) on their impressive victory at the polls.
Premier Smith pledged his Government’s support and collaboration to the Premier and her new administration as the Turks and Caicos begins this new chapter in its political life. He further extended best wishes on behalf of the government and people of the Virgin Islands for a successful term in office.
The Honourable Sharlene Cartwright - Robinson became the first woman to hold the office of Premier in the Turks and Caicos Islands when she was sworn into office on Saturday December 17. The People’s Democratic Movement secured an overwhelming victory following general elections on December 15. Members of the new PDM cabinet took the Oath of Office on Tuesday.
