BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS (December 23, 2016) -- The Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis (DBSKN) is once again partnering with the St. Kitts and Nevis National Carnival to promote the Federation’s culture through the sponsorship of Ms Hydeia Tyson for the Miss National Carnival Pageant, and Ms Kachiana Robin for the Miss Carnival Swimsuit Pageant.

The two contestants were on Monday December 19 received by the General Manager of the Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis, Mr Lenworth Harris, after they were introduced to him by Ms Vernitha Maynard, the Bank’s Marketing Officer. They were accompanied by Ms Trevicia Adams, chairperson of the National Carnival Swimsuit Pageant.

“All you need to do is to prepare well, represent yourself well and once you are prepared then the results will take care of themselves - don’t worry about the results,” advised Mr Harris. “Do what you have to do and then everything else will take care of itself.”

With the pageants taking place in the coming week, Tuesday December 27 for the Miss National Carnival Swimsuit and Wednesday December 28 for the Miss National Carnival Pageant, Mr Harris hoped that the two contestants have prepared well and that they are getting maximum support from their respective chaperones.

“I am pleased we have two winning entities and I want to commend you in advance,” said Mr Harris. “I am grateful to have been able to accommodate the both of you, and I know you will do well: among the two of you I should have at least two winners. You prepare - the results will speak for themselves.”

Ms Kachiana Robin, who is a student at the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College (CFBC) and works on a part time basis at one of the island’s top hotels, noted this is the first time she is taking part in a pageant and her aim is to be a role model for young ladies especially those from underprivileged areas, to bring them up to standard with everyone else.

“It is kind of challenging for me, but I will try my best to be that role model,” said Ms Robins who also added that she is a designer and that she is the one who designed her swimsuit. Born in 1994, she hails from McKnight in Basseterre.

22-year-old Ms Hydeia Tyson who works for the Water Department in Nevis is a veteran of pageants, having taken part in the Nevis Culturama’s Mr and Miss Talented Youth Pageant at age 12 while in primary school; at Gingerland Secondary School where she won the school’s beauty pageant; and took part in the Miss Culture Pageant (C40) in 2014.

She credits her mother for motivating her to take part in pageants and added that she is excited to have been sponsored by the Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis. She said: “It was exciting for me because my chaperone told me that most of her contestants were sponsored by the Development Bank already, and they placed in the pageants.”

The Miss National Carnival Swimsuit Pageant was held for the first last year, and Ms Alsanarda Hanley who was sponsored by the Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis was the first winner. She in July this year travelled to Anguilla, also sponsored by the Development Bank, and won the Miss Venus Caribbean Swimsuit Pageant.

“I do believe that having a regional ambassador from the National Carnival Swimsuit Pageant (Ms Alsanarda Hanley) will in fact boost the standard of the pageant this year,” observed Ms Trevicia Adams, chairperson of the Carnival Swimsuit Pageant. “This year is the second year and we have already set the bar for a regional representative and winner, so we are hoping that the winner from this year’s pageant will follow the same steps as Ms Alsanarda Hanley.”
