January 26th, 2017 -- This season, Charlestown Gallery is featuring a Canadian international photographer, Pamela Purves, the author of “Nevis. Its Living History”.
Purves's art show opens on January 30 and it will run the entire month of February.
In her picture book that is available at the Nevis Historical and Conservation Society’s(NHCS) museums and various other outlets, she depicts the island’s indigenous and contemporary buildings. “I thought it would be very nice to have a coffee table book on Nevis so that I can attract persons to come to Nevis,” she says.
Deborah Tyrell, Coordinator, Charlestown Gallery is impressed by Purves ability to capture Nevis’s past and present history in pictures. “Her work will feature what happens to places when we leave, which is something that has happened a lot in the Caribbean. When we migrate, houses, properties are left.”
What evokes emotion is how Purves uses her imagination to capture the lighting that comes through these houses.
Purves discovered Nevis 30 years ago through a friend who visited the island and stayed in Montpelier hotel. Since then, she has visited the island every year. Her visits have paid off. She is the sole artist featured in the month of February.
