BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE security forces, last night (Jan. 27), netted their third illegal firearm for the year.

Commander of District ‘A’ Superintendent Cromwell Henry told SKNVibes that the find happened at about 8:45 p.m. at the Ferry Terminal, Basseterre where a routine patrol was being conducted.

The patrol was amongst members of the Police Force’s Special Services Unit (SSU) and the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force.

He indicated that during the operation, one loaded pistol was found and taken into custody and two men were arrested “and are assisting in the ongoing investigations”.

The caliber of the firearm would be released in a subsequent press statement, the Superintendent said, as the requisite checks have yet to be done to ascertain such.

    Investigations are ongoing.

The second illegal firearm to have been confiscated for the year – a .40mm pistol – was removed from a Willett’s Housing Project, St. Paul’s house during the execution of a search warrant. A quantity of illicit drugs were also removed from the premises.

That incident occurred on January 16 and on January 10, during a search operation in Upper Cayon, officers found a Mac 10 wrapped in a plastic bag with a matching magazine and .9mm rounds of ammunition.

While no one has been held responsible for the first, the police indicated that reference the firearm found in St. Paul’s, Alex Jules of that area was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition. He was also charged with drug possession.

Last year, the authorities removed 36 illegal firearms from the streets of St. Kitts and Nevis.
