Eulogy
Charles Theodore James a.k.a. (Hope a God) was born in the Parish of Cayon, on the island of St. Kitts on January 30, 1958. He was the son of the deceased Karen Evangeline Liburd and Samuel James. He attended the Lower Cayon Primary School and the Senior School. Charles’ most enjoyable pastime was pitching marbles. He pitched marbles so much that he always won his friends. His friends hated to play with him and they teased him for winning all the time. They asked him why he always won and his response would always be “because I have hope in God”. He attended the Cayon church of God where he learned to play guitar, the organ and the keyboard.

He lived in Virgin Gorda, St. Thomas (USVI) and then migrated to New York where he lived for over 20 years. He worked as a window installer. He attended the Mt. Carmel Pentecostal Church for over a year and began playing the guitar. He played for the Mt. Carmel Pentecostal Church choir religiously and enjoyed his passion and love for gospel music. He was a former melotones player.

Theodore was a kind, loving and gentle person who cared deeply about other people. He had a memory like no other, and could recall events that no one else remembered. He always had a story to tell and he took his time and related every detail. He considered himself somewhat a comedian who always told jokes. Sometimes he was the only one who got the joke and laughed. He was a patient man who took his time in everything he did. He was a lovely human-being.

He is survived by his daughter Quilton James in South Carolina, his son Ashton Jaden James in New York. His siblings Walter Mills in St. Thomas, Ernest, Laulina and Morvette Liburd in Connecticcut, Rhoda Payne in St. Kitts, Leroy Liburd and Lorna O’Neal in Virgin Gorda and Tortola, and Herbertine Liburd in Canada. His surviving aunts are Mary (Bernie) Maynard in England and Esther Thompson in St. Thomas. He had many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends too numerous to mention. His childhood  friends include Andrew Henderson, Calis Brown and Norman Jeffers. He spent his last months living with his nephew Randie Mills who helped him through his sickness.

We thank God for giving him to us even though his time on earth was so short. His family loved him dearly and we will all muss him in our lives.
