Maurice Hillier Memorial delivers early Christmas gifts to less fortunate

By: Cherisse M. Sutton-Jeffers

BASSETERRE, St. KITTS – STAFF and pupil of the Maurice Hillier Memorial Junior School gave back to their community earlier today (Nov. 26) with the distribution of early Christmas gift baskets to the less fortunate.

Speaking to SKNVibes, the school’s Principal, Icilma Springer, said the gesture is not only to give back to the community but also to teach the children that it is better to give than to receive.

This has been the fifth year since the school has undertaken this task, but this year it is with a difference. The school’s administrators have increased the gift baskets by five over last year’s 25.

The same initiative is also done during Easter due to the overwhelming response that the school had received from members of the community.

Each gift basket contained various foodstuff and toiletries, which included items from pupils of the school, whom teachers had requested each of them to take one item to school for contribution to the less fortunate.

One elderly woman, who was visited, said she felt honoured that the school remembers her each year. She asked God to bless the school, its principal, teachers and the principle for such kind gestures.
