On the Road to victory hailed an “unprecedented success”

By: VonDez Phipps, SKNVibes

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AS promised, the People’s Action Movement’s (PAM) “On the Road to Victory Rally” was one of the most historic events in the history of the party with an impressive stage setup, programme line-up and a crowd of over 1 500 persons.

The late change in venue may have brought doubts in the minds of some but, according to the organisers, the rally was “an unprecedented success”. As early as 6:00 p.m., busloads from various constituencies began pouring party supporters unto the Greenlands Pasture with hopes to be enlightened about the party’s plans if it assumes government after the impending General Elections. Gold and yellow T-shirts, flags, bandanas and the occasional all-yellow outfit painted the grounds with a theme of “Time for change” – the basis of the party’s 2009 political campaign.

Each candidate of the party made brief presentations, giving accounts of problems at both the constituency and national levels and proposed how a PAM government would address them. One of the features of the event was the introduction and entrance of the Party’s Political Leader Lindsay Grant, which was described by many as “very impressive”.

The Party Leader arrived on the grounds in a mini-motorcade of party cheerleaders and decorated vehicles bearing the party’s colours and theme. Security personnel cleared a path through the crowd as Grant and recently-crowned Miss Personality and Marvellous (PAM) Roslyn Berkeley made their first public appearance together.

After a minute’s silence in respect for the nations’ recent homicide victims, Grant addressed the public debt, cost of living and the economy, claiming that his party would bring change to benefit all. He displayed a yellow briefcase which he claims holds a number of documents revealing inside information about Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Denzil Douglas and his administration.

With much support from the crowd, Grant declared the launch of his party’s 2009 Elections Campaign.

According to Deputy Party Leader and lone Parliamentary Representative for the party, the Hon. Shawn Richards, the event was “a huge success” and was “well-supported” by members, friends and well-wishers of the party.

“The energy and the response from the crowd were extremely good. What I liked was that the young, old and middle-aged turned out in their numbers; the crowd had a good mix of people. It shows that people are fired up and are ready for change. The battle for change of government has begun!” Richards asserted.

The Constituency Five Representative acknowledged that victory for the party requires a lot of work, but informed that the rally was only the start of greater things to come as the campaign gets closer to Elections.

The rally ended with live entertainment from Jamaican reggae superstar Freddie McGregor along with local acts including back-to-back Road March champion Grand Masters, as they partied until around 2:00 a.m.
