Summer Computer Camp for children

By: Melissa Bryant, SKNVibes

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – WITH this year’s edition of the annual Summer Computer Camp, children with a fascination for technology will have an outlet to express and hone that interest.

A communiqué disseminated by the Department of Information and Technology informed that the camp, which is in its third year, would be held from Monday, July 20 to Friday July 24 at the National ICT Centre in the C A Paul Southwell Industrial Site.

Children between the ages of 12 to 16 are eligible to attend the camp. They will be instructed by local businessman Peter Chevozerov in areas including parts of the computer, internet use and web research, keyboarding, word processing, and software development.

There will be two sessions with a maximum of 24 persons – one from 9:00 a.m. to noon, and another from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Registration is $25 and forms are available at the Centre.

According to Colin Frank, Director of the Centre, the objective of the camp is to expose young persons to computers and to the myriad career opportunities existing within the computing and technology fields.

“The camp will give kids something fun to do during summer vacation. They’ll be off the streets and out of trouble. At the same time, they’ll be learning about computers and developing a greater interest in technology. Hopefully this camp will open some of their eyes to a possible career in computing,” he said.

For more information, persons can contact the Centre at 465-0610 or e-mail ictcentre@gov.kn.
