BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE momentum with which the Police Force and its allies began the year continues, and has to led to a firearm being seized from an unclaimed piece of luggage which was at the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport.

The Police Force has informed that the luggage arrived in St. Kitts last week Thursday (Mar. 09) via a flight from the United States of America.

A Police press release indicated that the unaccompanied luggage was “tagged to a passenger travelling to St. Kitts” but “the passenger never arrived in the Federation”.

The luggage was scanned and searched and a Taurus .357 Magnum revolver, along with 68 rounds of ammunition, a holster and two speed loaders, were found inside.

“The discovery was made while following routine security protocols for unaccompanied luggage.”

Her Majesty’s Customs and Excise Department and the Police Force are making investigations into this incident.

Thus far for 2017, seven illegal firearms have been seized by the Police; 36 were removed from the streets last year.
