Credit Union committed to ‘Save our Sons’

Pastor Clive Saunders accepts cheque from SKCCU Branch Manager Wilma Phipps

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – FOR the second consecutive year, the St. Kitts Co-operative Credit Union Ltd. (SKCCU) has rendered financial assistance to  the Save Our Sons (SOS) Boys’ Interim Home.

The donation to the Sandy Point boys’ home was presented last week Thursday (June 4) at the company’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), and according to management, the contribution strengthens the relationship between the two institutions.

SKCCU Marketing and Human Resource Manager Julie Charles told SKNVibes that the organisations have a good working relation, and informed that, last year, the company had donated towards the purchasing of some of the furniture. She noted that, this year, the money would go toward assisting the Home in its computer programme.

“The beauty of Credit Union, as part of the operating principles, is that we are obligated to provide social contributions to the community. We serve our communities whether through donations, facilitating workshop and even have talks for social groups,” Charles said.

The company has had a record of community development projects, according to Charles, and it intends to continue to partner with the SOS Home as management views it an invaluable investment in the nation’s youth.

“We need to put more contributions into our youth, and the SOS is a good programme in which we can do this. It focuses on troubled men and puts them on another part to recognise the errors of their ways. And if there is any way we can contribute in order to keep this programme alive, we will!” Charles added.

SKNVibes contacted Pastor Clive Saunders, SOS Director, who worded his pleasure in the partnership that has been established with the SKCCU. He thanked the management for its continued support and encouraged other corporate citizens to donate to the cause.

“It is always a good thing when businesses can see a need and make an effort to assist. The Credit Union donated money for beds last year and this year, with the contribution, we will be able to finance our new computer programme to help the boys with their schoolwork.

“I encourage this partnership which I would consider to absolutely necessary for social and community development. I would like to see more businesses come on board and assist us in any way possible to get our computer programme up and running,” Saunders said.

The SOS Boys Interim Home was established in mid-2005 to cater to troubled boys from around the island. It is operated by the Unique Touch Christian Centre and is introducing a computer programme to provide the boys the opportunity to research and learn basic computer skills.

Individuals interested in donating to the project can contact Pastor Clive Saunders at (869) 664 4234.
