Christophe Harbour donates to Pogson Hospital

By: Jermine Abel, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE Pogson Hospital in Sandy Point was yesterday (Mar. 21) the beneficiary of a donation from the private sector entity, Christophe Harbour.

The private entity donated a number of pieces of medical equipment to the hospital which would aid staff in carrying out the treatment of patients.

In handing over the equipment, Tammy Darby – operator of the Christophe Harbour Foundation and wife of Christophe Harbour proprietor, Buddy Darby - explained that over the last several months she was looking for ways to assist the community.

And with her Foundation dealing primarily with health and wellness, education and youth development, Darby indicated that Minister of Education the Hon. Shawn Richard had been very active in highlighting various ways in which the entity could assist.

“We love the fact that we can actually get out and do some positive things, which has always been a focal point not only for our company but for our family,” she said.

As her two daughters watched, Darby donated medical supplies, cardiac monitors and a bed among other equipment.

“The Deputy Prime Minister was instrumental in helping me make a lot of decisions. Getting these medical supplies has taken a few months in order for it to happen, but we have wonderful medical support in the States and we have wonderful support through a shipping company…”

“We hope that this would make an impact in this community for everyone. We would like to work with other parts of the community,” she added.

Deputy PM Richards, who is also the Parliamentary Representative for the area, thanked Darby for the donation on behalf of the residents of the area.

“It gives me great pleasure in accepting these medical equipment on behalf of the Pogson Medical Facility which falls under the Ministry of Health.”

Junior Minister of Health, the Hon. Wendy Phipps told the Darbys that their donation complements the public-private partnerships which have a positive history in the community in the area of health care and service delivery.

She pointed out that the donated equipment would “certainly add to the existing stock that we have here, especially as it relates to the nebulizrs and the cardiac monitors.”
