BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – YESTERDAY afternoon’s (June 10) rush-hour traffic on the Island’s Main Road was more congested than usual, due to an alleged speeding vehicle that collided with another in the Ocean Gardens Housing Development area.
About 4:50 p.m., SKNVibes responded to calls indicating that a traffic accident occurred in the vicinity of Mattingley Heights.
When this media house arrived on the scene, drivers and passengers of the vehicles involved in the accident were awaiting the arrival of the police. SKNVibes contacted the drivers of the two vehicles but they refused to comment on the cause of the accident.
An eyewitness however explained that a long line of vehicles were travelling eastward on the Island’s Main Road when a white Suzuki Escudo jeep (PA5325), driven by a Ross University student, began to overtake the vehicles. In the process, according to the eyewitness, a green Benz car (P6128) took a right turn at the junction leading to Ocean Gardens Housing Development. This caused PA5325 to hit the car before taking a quick swerve into a nearby wall and coming to a standstill on its side.
“The driver of the jeep started to fly pass everybody and maybe he didn’t see the woman [driver of P6128] when she was turning to go down the road. So, he hit her, swung off and knocked into the wall, turned on the side and they [driver and passengers of PA5325] just climbed out of the jeep,” an eyewitness recounted.
There were no reported injuries or fatalities. Representatives from the Ross University Security Department arrived immediately after, but they also refused to give a comment without firstly giving an official statement to the police.
SKNVibes contacted the Police Traffic Department about an hour later and an official informed that no officer was able to get to the scene at that time, but assured that investigations would be conducted.
