BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – Less than 24 hours after a 15-year-old was stabbed to death, a 23-year-old lost his life after being gunned down in Nevis.
The incident was confirmed by the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force via a communique which indicated that it occurred at Cotton Ground at approximately 4:00 p.m.
“The incident resulted in the death of one (1) person, Rondel Chapman, a 23 year old male resident of Rawlins Village. Initial investigations reveal that the victim was shot by unknown assailants while at the Cotton Ground Playing Field.”
Chapman’s death brings to five, the number of homicides to have taken place within the Federation for the year.
Investigations are being made by the Violent Crimes Unit as well as police officers functioning in District ‘C’.
A subsequent communique released by the Police Force indicated that a firearm and rounds of ammunition were discovered on the murder scene.
“Officers responding to a shooting incident at the Cotton Ground Playing Field on Sunday (March 26) discovered and seized a Glock 9mm pistol with a magazine containing 15 matching rounds of ammunition… The firearm was seized and ballistics analysis will be carried out.”
It is being suggested that the firearm and ammunition were removed from the body of the deceased but that has yet to be confirmed by the authorities.
The number of firearms seized by the Police for the year now stands at eight.

District ‘C’ Commander Superintendent Trevor Mills was quoted in the press release as reminding individuals to say something if they would have seen something.
