St. Vincent and the Grenadines gearing up for calypso competitions

    Kingstown, St. Vincent  - AS St. Vincent and the Grenadines Carnival draws near, a number of Calypso Semi-finalists are gearing up for the 2009 bacchanal session.

     

    Twenty-two calypsonians have been selected to compete on Friday, June 19 in the Semi-finals. Coming out from various tents in the country are Joy-C, Vibrating Scakes, Abijah, Ipa, Patches, Rastaman I, Reality, Roots Gordon, Spechie, Rejector, De Man Age, John Dougan, Dennis Bowman, Sulle, Black Messenger, Tajoe, Defoe, Gosnel GC Cupid, Shaunelle Mackenzie, Brother Ebony, Zion I and Bosalt. 

     

    The competition is expected to be a ‘tight’ one as seven of the 22 competitors are past calypso monarchs. Super Dex and Isa Jah are also set as reserves for the night. 

     

    Each calypsonian will perform one song, after which the Finalists will move on to compete on July 5, performing two songs.

     

    Meanwhile, eight students have been chosen to compete against defending champion Terrancia ‘Little TC’ Cornwall in the Finals for the Junior Calypso/Soca Monarchy in the primary school competition. The Finals is scheduled for Victoria Park on June 30.
