Gunmen shift target to St. Johnston Village

By: Melissa Bryant, SKNVibes

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AFTER the dastardly act of terrorising residents in the McKnight/Irishtown community, some individuals who seem to have placed no worth on human lives have shifted their shooting targets to the Village area.

At approximately 8:45 last night (June 11), two masked gunmen fired shots into an alley directly opposite Razba Ital Shop on St. Johnston Avenue, St. Johnston Village.

Their target is unknown, but immediately after the shots were fired, the men were seen running up the street and through the Springfield Cemetery towards the direction of Basseterre.

According to eyewitnesses, they were dressed in dark clothing and wore masks.

Members of the Royal St. Christopher-Nevis Police Force arrived shortly after 9:00 p.m. to their investigation; however, no further information was forthcoming at that time.

SKNVibes contacted the Police Press and Public Relations Officer, Inspector Cromwell Henry, who confirmed the incident took place but was unable to reveal the number of bullets fired, the potential target and the identity of the perpetrators. He however indicated that investigations are ongoing.

This incident marks the fifth time for the month that shots have been fired in the areas of McKnight, Irishtown and St. Johnston Village.

On Monday, June 1, a shootout among three men occurred on Fiennes Avenue in broad daylight. Two separate shootings occurred on Wednesday, June 3, as some eight bullets were fired at the Fiennes Avenue home of Davida Phipps, and just over an hour later, Gavin ‘Big Cheese’ Grant and Travis ‘Small One’ Crawford, both of Irishtown, were shot on their way home.

The shootings culminated in the Friday, June 5 death of Anthony ‘Bunty’ Williams. The 21-year-old was gunned down in Salt Pond Alley, mere feet from his home on Fort Thomas Road.
