St. Johnston Village remains gunmen’s target

By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – JUST one day after shifting their target from the McKnight/Irishtown community, gunmen have once again taken their dastardly act to St. Johnston Village.

This time, however, the target is the home of Shirley Wilkinson.

According to a release, police responded to a report of shooting at St. Johnston Village at about 11:15 last night (June 12) and investigations revealed that “a motor car pulled up outside the home of Shirley Wilkinson and its occupant(s) discharged several rounds at the home damaging the front window before speeding away”.

The police release further stated that no one was injured and investigations are ongoing.

SKNVibes visited the scene of the incident this morning (June 13) in an attempt to get a comment from Wilkinson but was told that she was at work.

This incident marks the sixth time for the month that gunmen have fired shots in the areas of McKnight, Irishtown and St. Johnston Village.

At approximately 8:45 p.m. on Thursday, June 11, two masked gunmen, dressed in dark clothing, fired shots into an alley directly opposite Razba Ital Shop on St. Johnston Avenue, St. Johnston Village.

Their target was unknown, but immediately after the shots were fired, the men were seen running up the street and through the Springfield Cemetery towards the direction of Basseterre.

On Monday, June 1, a shootout among three men occurred on Fiennes Avenue in broad daylight. This was followed by two separate shootings that occurred on Wednesday, June 3, when some eight bullets were fired at the Fiennes Avenue home of Davida Phipps; and just over an hour later, Gavin ‘Big Cheese’ Grant and Travis ‘Small One’ Crawford, both of Irishtown, were shot on their way home.

The shootings culminated in the Friday, June 5 death of Anthony ‘Bunty’ Williams. The 21-year-old was gunned down in Salt Pond Alley, mere feet from his home on Fort Thomas Road.

Investigations into these incidents are ongoing.

Meanwhile, police also received reports of gunshots heard in the Newtown area at about 11:00 last night, but “no useful information was obtained to confirm this incident”.
