CFBC’s Jenkins Leadership Course hands over bus stop to Tourism Ministry

The bus sto in Belle Vue

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AS part of their Community Project, students of the CFBC Jenkins Leadership Course, over the past weekend, had handed over a new bus stop in Belle Vue to the Ministry of Tourism.

The Cohort Group 5, which is being spearheaded by Peter Jenkins, got assistance from the Ministry of Tourism and some residents of the Belle Vue area in constructing the bus stop.

The Leadership Course, which started in November 2016, will see the students undertaking two major initiatives. The being a community project – the bus stop in Belle Vue – and the second a business project, which is yet to be completed.

It was disclosed that the community project was initiated by Dr. Vance Gilbert and a number of residents in that community.

Minister of Tourism, Hon. Lindsay Grant told the gathering of residents, tourism officials and other corporate partners that though the handing over seemed simple, it was a very significant gesture.

“Significant because it has brought together 28 young people from the CFBC who are in the second level of the Leadership Course, which is organised by the CFBC…which has had its roots from Peter Jenkins.”

Grant noted that those who gave of their time, money and expertise in the development of young people in St. Kitts and Nevis should be highly commended.

The Tourism Minister lauded Jenkins for the gesture, noting that not only had he been instrumental in the construction of the bus stop, but also in the development of many young people in the Federation.

“I think very often that we blame and cast aspersions on the young people because of what we have happening in the society today. And so, for me, it is a very important gesture by Peter Jenkins to ensure that not only that this bus stop comes to fruition, but that he has a hand in the overall development of young people in St. Kitts and Nevis.”

The Minister also commended the youths for their foresight in developing their education, while noting that his vision for tourism is not limited to Basseterre but also the people and communities in the rural areas.

“This is very important for us at the Ministry of Tourism because, towards the seaside, we are spending in excess of I believe half a million dollars over the next several months to make sure that facilities at the Black Rocks area get a welcome refurbishment and a welcome uplift,” he added.

Minister Grant called on those in attendance to spread the word that something is happening at Black Rocks, as his Ministry seeks to push the development of the area for vendors.
