CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – THE Flambouyant Senior Citizen’s Home at the Alexandra Hospital came alive to the sound of youthful voices Thursday morning (June 11) when pre-schoolers from several schools in Charlestown and its environs paid a visit to the institution.
The visit, part of the Ministry of Education’s activities in observation of the 25th anniversary of Child’s Month, consisted of the children singing several songs and making a presentation to the Home.
Education Officer responsible for Early Childhood on Nevis, Florence Mooving said the goal of the visit was to bring the young and old of the community together: “We wanted the younger ones to appreciate the older folks in the community.”
She said it was part of a community outreach which is focused on the holistic development of the child: “We want them to socialise.”
This year year’s theme is “25 years of Educare, Parenting and Community Affairs”, and activities include a tea party at the Charlestown Methodist Conference Room on June 16, a fun day on the St. George’s Recreation Grounds on June 18, and a visit to the St. George’s Senior Citizen’s Home on June 23.
Activities already taking place include a Dancamasing - consisting of drama, singing, modelling and dancing – by students of the various pre-schools and day care centres on the island. This took place on Tuesday at the Cultural Complex in Charlestown.
