Alphonso Bridgewater unanimously returned to the PASO Executive

By: SKNOC, Press Release

April 28th, 2017 -- Alphonso Bridgewater, President of the St. Kitts and Nevis Olympic Committee ( SKNOC), was unanimously re-elected to the Executive of the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO) when the PASO forty-one (41) nation membership met in Punta del Este, Uruguay (April 24-27) for its 54th General Assembly and quadrennial elections.

The confidence that Bridgewater's colleagues placed in him is clearly a reflection of the "high regard they have for his quiet but demonstrable competence, his unique perspectives to the resolution of issues and his passion for favouring the bigger picture, the advantages to the team over the individual whilst yet giving due consideration to the vulnerable" according to one source.

Bridgewater would have much value to add to the deliberations and decision-making processes of "this critical arm of the wider Olympic Movement that PASO constitutes as we draw on the home-spun wisdom that he brings to the table in challenging moments. He is a trusted, calming and forthright voice to which I, and I know many others like me turn for a true sense of direction on a variety of issues" was the response of a senior member of PASO.

In an extremely competitive election for the post of President, the engineer by profession and President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Chile, Mr. Nevin Illic, was elected (by a slim majority of one vote over Dr. Puello, former President of the NOC of Dominican Republic) as the new president of PASO for the period 2017-2020. President Illic took over the presidency from Dr. Julio Maglione who filled the breach as President of PASO for the past two years following the passing of Mr. Mario Vasquez Rana who headed the PASO for nigh on four decades.
