CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – THE incessant clarion call for members of the public to assist the security forces in their fight against crime was heeded last evening (Apr. 29), as a law-abiding citizen had provided police with information that led to the seizure of an illegal firearm and the arrest of a man on Nevis.

According to a police statement, officers on Nevis received information from a concerned citizen that a man was seen with a firearm.

On receipt of the information, the officers immediately commenced a search for the man in the Ramsbury and Government Road area.

The man was found walking with the firearm in his hand in the Government Road area and began to run when challenged by the officers.

A chase ensured and, on apprehension, he was allegedly found to be in possession of a Smith and Wesson .40mm Pistol.

The man was taken into custody along with the illegal firearm and a subsequent Search Warrant was executed on his home.

The statement indicated that Commissioner of Police Ian Queeley said: ““I am heartened by the courage of this citizen to come forward with such timely and credible information. This augurs well for the Police-Public Partnership. It is this type of community involvement that will help us to maintain Citizen Safety.”

It also stated that the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force continues its appeal to residents and citizens to come forward and share any information they may have with regards to crime and criminal activity. Citizens could do so by calling any police station, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477(TIPS) or by using the SKN Crime Reporter App on a Smartphone.

This find has taken to 13 the number of illegal firearms removed from Federation’s streets for the year.
