ST. JOHN, Antigua - THE Antigua Carnival Committee held its media launch at the Sandal Grand Resort and Spa on Saturday, June 13 and declared that this year’s event would take place from July 25 to August 4.
Antigua’s Carnival is hailed as the Caribbean’s greatest summer festival and is being held this year under the theme “It’s Yours, It’s Mine, Antigua Carnival 2009”.
The calendar of events was official released at the launch of which a number of calypso tents and other activities are scheduled to take place leading to July 25.
The first day will see the opening of the Carnival City while the 26th will see the Children’s Carnival, followed by Queen of the Carnival Show, Teen Splash, Caribbean Melting Pot and National Panorama.
July 31 will see a number of young ladies vying for the Miss Jaycees Caribbean Queen title, which will be followed by the Party Monarch on August 1, while the August 2 will see the Calypso Monarch competition. On August 3, revellers will be participating in J’Ouvert and the Parade of Troupes; while on the final day (Aug. 4) there will be a repeat performance of the Parade of Troupes, coupled with Last Lap.
