BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – DESCRIBED as the dawn of “a new era” in smartphones, the new Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ were officially launched in St. Kitts and Nevis by telecommunications giant FLOW.

At a simple ceremony held yesterday (May 19) at the company’s superstore in downtown Basseterre, FLOW’s  Commercial Manager Anthony Morton explained that the creation of the new handheld devices is the dawning of “what you know about handsets and showing you that there are no boundaries to what you can do with this new device”.

The sleek S8 and S8+ devices come in two distinct sizes, 5.2 and 6.8 inches, boasting improved security features and a vastly developed camera on their sister phone - the S7.

They comes with tempered reinforced glass screen and a facial recognition security app to open the devices.

“There is no limitation to the infinity display that is there. There is no limitation to the security that Samsung has incorporated in this new handset,” Morton said.

The developers have moved away from the cursor position on the bottom of the phones that would allow users to unlock the devices and incorporated within.

“One of the most exciting parts of the Samsung Galaxy S8 is the new assistant Bixby. The phone also recognizes landmarks; it allows you to connect through this media and show you the pictures. Bixby is a tremendous and innovative addition,” the Manager added.

Meanwhile, Consumer and Sales Manager at FLOW, Kevin Edwards explained that the developers have gone beyond what many would have expected in a device.

The devices went on sale today (May 20) at all of the company’s outlets and, according to Edwards, they are being retailed at $2,999 to prepaid customers, while post-paid subscribers with a one-year contract could have them for $2,699 and a two-year contract for $2,399.

Those desirous of purchasing the S8+ will have to pay $3,499 (prepaid), $3,149 post-paid with a one-year contract and $2,799 with a two-year contract.
