A play, “Five Women and a Baby” produced by Cross Roads Community Church’s Empowered Women’s Group, which has a rare and positive message, for the vulnerable and the rejected in the society, will be staged at Eden Brown Church of God, Butlers, on Sunday, May 28, at 6.30 pm.
The cast comprised of men and women act out the difficult and strange circumstances Tamar, Ruth, Bathseba, Mary and Rahab faced. The cast brings to live biblical days when the women faced rejection.
Eden Brown Church of God’s Women of Worth (WOW) are partnering with the Cross Roads Community Church’s Women’s Group to have the play staged a second time due to popular demand.
The play was first premiered in November at Cross Roads Community Church. Paula Kellman, the leader of the Cross Roads Community Church, who has directed the play, says after the theme was discussed by the women group, she consulted Cross Roads Community Church’s Pastor, Euclid Lawrence and his wife, Carmella Lawrence, a popular Gospel singer.
Carmella came up with the innovative title of the play, “Five Women and a Baby”. The five women who experienced shame in biblical times are depicted in the play in their vulnerable circumstances but later in the plot, God works through the women’s weaknesses and difficult circumstances and promotes them.
You have to watch the play to discover how God elevates them from a position of shame to a privileged status. “God qualifies the disqualified,” Paula stated.
