BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - FANS of FLOW 4G Cayon Rockets suffered a huge disappointment last evening (May 27), when the game in which their team seemed certain of winning came to an unexpected closure caused by a shooting incident that resulted in the injury of one man.

Playing against RAM’S Village Superstars at the Warner Park Football Stadium in the second game of the Playoffs, Cayon Rockets was leading 2-nil when sounds of gunfire were heard in the eastern direction of the stadium which caused a large number of spectators to run onto the field of play.

One individual, whose name was given as Amal Whyte, was reportedly shot to the arm and side and was transported to the JNF General Hospital.

A police report claimed that the firearm used in the incident was an air pistol/pellet gun and that two persons were in custody.

The incident, for security reasons, had forced match officials to take the players, referee and linesmen off the field.

With additional security officers called to the stadium, play was stopped for over an hour before the officials decided to call off the game for the night, including the second one of the evening between S.L. Horsford’s St. Paul’s and H. E. Garden Hotspurs.

The game will resume at 6:00 p.m. today; and it is expected that the game will continue from where it was stopped.

The Superstars will be looking to make inroads in a must win encounter after they went down 1-0 in their opening game.

Meanwhile, the second game will kick off at 7:30 p.m., where Spurs will be looking to rebound after they suffered a loss in their opening game.

Fans are urged to turn up early for the game, as heighten security measures are likely to be in place and will see patrons taking longer to enter the stadium.

Admission to this evening’s encounters is free of charge.
