Trevis Henville joins his brother in jail

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AFTER throwing away his opportunity to change his ways and live the life of an upstanding citizen, Trevis Henville has found himself back in Her Majesty’s Prison serving time for robbery and gun-related charges.

The teenager had pleaded guilty to a robbery charge brought against him earlier this year and was handed a suspended sentence at the Basseterre High Court of Justice.

Resident Judge, Justice Francis Belle sentenced Henville to three years imprisonment which was only to be served should he, within the following three months, commit and be found guilty of an offence punishable by at least six months imprisonment.

Before sentencing, Henville indicated to the court that he was “sorry” and Justice Belle warned the youngster to refrain from engaging in illegal activities.

An approximate two weeks after he received that second chance, SKNVibes learnt that members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force found Henville in the Newtown area with a firearm and a quantity of live rounds. The firearm, ammunition and Henville were taken into police custody and he was subsequently charged with illegal firearm possession and illegal ammunition possession.

SKNVibes understands that he was taken before the District “A” Magistrate’s Court, convicted of both charges and sentenced to three months each, to run concurrently.

However, having breached the conditions of the suspended sentence, Henville was brought back to the Basseterre High Court for sentencing yesterday. His Lordship told the young man that he seemed to have elevated his criminal activity from robbery to gun possession.

When questioned by His Lordship as from where he acquired the gun and what his intentions were, Henville, seeming not to understand the severity of the situation, smiled and chuckled as each question was asked.

His Lordship told him that the court would not be mocked and ordered that he begin serving the three-year sentence immediately. He was, shortly thereafter, whisked away to Her Majesty’s Prison where he will serve his sentence with hard labour.

Trevis now joins his brother Esrette, who unlike him, took his chance with a jury, was convicted and sentenced to 12 years imprisonment.
