BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – BEGINNING tomorrow (Jun. 3), fans will be treated to two days of skills and excitement as the 2017 Johnnie Walker St. Kitts Open Golf Tournament tees off at the Royal St. Kitts Golf Club in Frigate Bay.
This year’s event will see some 70 competitors lining up across several categories with the hope of walking away with the spoils up for grabs.
According to the organiser of the tournament, Christine Mc Eachrane, this year would see less participation from competitors, owing to the rising airfare and challenges many have encountered with regional airline LIAT.
Addressing reporters at a press conference yesterday (June 1), Mc Eachrane however explained that this year would see the inclusion of a staple for the tournament, whereby players would be competing for points.
“So, if you have a big score on a hole you can just pick up the ball and go your way. You don’t have to play out the entire hole; so it makes it quicker and is for the high handicaps,” Mc Eachrane explained.
That category of the tournament is open to men and women, along with the Gross and Net events.
Raymond Percival and Kamisha Anthony are the defending Overall Gross winners while Mike Shieh is the Overall Net champion.
