Bass seeking to take St. Kitts and Nevis internationally with his music

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – SOME people are of the view that dreams do not come true, but there are many who disagree and claim that they would if people remain focused and work diligently in spite of obstacles and naysayers.

One such individual is Rashaun Bass, whose lifelong goal is to become a singer penning his own songs and putting St. Kitts and Nevis on the world map as one of the best musical hotspots in the Caribbean.

The young artiste, who goes by the stage name ‘RB the Mayor’, is beginning to make waves locally with his lyrics.

In a recent interview, Bass sat down with SKNVibes Entertainment and stated he always had an inborn ardour for singing.

Reminiscing on his formative years, Bass pointed to his school days when he would have write pieces and sang along with his friends.

“You know in primary and secondary school we always had assembly and such, and after that we would sing. As we got older we got exposed to music from overseas, whether it be Rap, Dancehall or Reggae, and after those assemblies we would make music because we love it.’’

The artiste, who is being managed by Romeo Parris of Kactus Entertainment, began writing music as early as “grade four” and was inspired by Capleton.

Asked to what level he would like to reach in his career, Bass said: “ I see myself reaching heights that have never been achieved in St. Kitts and Nevis or by a Kittitian, otherwise I wouldn’t be doing it.”

He continued: “That’s my goal, to set records.”

Coming in the shadows of several top local performers, including the likes of Nicha B, Mr. Bagnall and Mr. Hype, Bass declared that he respects everybody who is making a name for themselves.

However, the path which he is taking to achieve set goals “is not a wish upon a star kind of vibes where things would happen overnight”.

He is adamant that it takes “hard work and sacrifice” to reach the top of the mountain, which is everyone’s pinnacle.

“You have to work, you just have to work. No matter the opportunity, no matter what obstacles come your way, you just have to work. Some people have a tendency to see obstacles or see a fight ahead and run or tend to fall back,” Bass added.

The 26-year-old recounted how he always mentioned to his mother that he would make it to the top of his trade, but though she is now deceased, the young man is using her memory as his inspiration to attain his goals.

“That has even made me want to do this thing even more,” he stressed. “This would actually give her a legacy and the word that I have actually accomplished something.”

Commenting on the crime situation, Bass intimated that it is one of the easiest roads to go down, but for him “it is the hardest thing to get out of”.

He wants the nation’s youth to understand that though things might be difficult at times, the right way is always the best to go.

“There are a lot of bright men and smart men in jail. Men with degrees are in the prison system because that was the easy way out. But I would tell them to try and stick with their guts and don’t take the easy way out because it is hard. I have heard a next musician say: ‘It is hard to give your mother a house or to ensure your family straight or get them out of the situation that they are in. It is hard to do all of those things, but it is easy to take up a gun and just shoot somebody.’”

Bass has recently released a new single and video titled ‘Woman Crush’, and his promoter will be officially revealing him to the public in the coming weeks.
