BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - THE Federation’s athletes competing at the Third Annual OECS Athletics Championships in St. Georges, Grenada have returned an impressive day one showing.

Team St. Kitts-Nevis sits second on the team table after the nation’s athletes ended the first of the two-day meet with seven medals, only behind host Grenada.

According to information coming out of the Kirani James Stadium, team SKN copped four gold, two silver and one bronze medals.

Gold medals were obtained in the Men’s High Jump through Jermaine Francis, who scaled a height of 2.11M; while Warren Hazel outran his competitors in the Men’s 400m in a time of 45.85s; and Jason Rogers took home the Men’s 100m title clocking 10.27s.

On the distaff side, Tameka Williams followed in Rogers’ footsteps, taking gold in the 100m with a time of 11.42s.

Both the Men and Women Relay teams took home silver medals in the 4X100m.

The women stopped the clock at 44.80s and the men at 39.48s.

In the Women’s Long Jump, Krystal Liburd recorded a distance 6.01m to take the only bronze medal for team St. Kitts-Nevis.

The Federation’s unit has a lot of work to do in its bid to overtake the Grenadians and return home as champions in the 10-nation competition.

The national team currently trails its Grenadian counterpart by five medals, two of which are gold.
