BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A four-member contingent will be winging out to Nairobi, Kenya where three athletes will bear the flag of St. Kitts and Nevis at the final World Under-18 Championships from July 12 to 16.

In a statement announcing the team late Friday evening (Jul. 7), the St. Kitts-Nevis Amateur Athletics Association (SKNAAA) indicated that “as an incentive for their outstanding performances and meeting the standard criteria for selection, three athletes were formally selected to participate in the final edition of the International Associations of Athletics Federation (IAAF) World Under 18 Championships.

The team comprises Dimetre Browne, who has put in favourable performances on the local scene, including Scholastic Meets. He is slated to compete in the 200m.

Tajarie Aurthurton also impressed at the Scholatic Meets and he will be hitting the tracks in Kenya in the sprint double, 100m and 200m.

Jahnaza Francis will be competing in the 400m Hurdles, according to the SKNAAA, and Llewelyn Pyke was designated Head Coach/Team Leader.

The SKNAAA reiterated that the three young men performed exceptionally well throughout the 2017 season, pointing out that they all represented the SKNAAA at the 2017 FLOW CARIFTA Games and were successful in advancing to the finals in at least one of their respective events, including relays.

“Thanks is extended to the St. Kitts and Nevis National Olympic Committee (SKNOC) who provided a sponsorship grant to the tune of USD14,522.51 covering all cost associated with travel and accommodation outside of the IAAF standard quota. As the curtains close on the IAAF World Under 18 series, the SKNAAA extends congratulations to the team and wishes them a successful and an eventful campaign,” the statement read.
