    SKCA Congratulates Senior Cricket Team”

Monday, July 17, 2017 Basseterre, St. Kitts – Following their recent victory as back-to-back Champions of the Leeward Islands 50 Overs Competition, the Senior Team of the St. Kitts Cricket Team were greeted with high praises from the Executive Committee of the local Cricket Association on Wednesday evening, July 12, 2017.

During the brief ceremony, President of the St. Kitts Chapter of the Cricket Association, Dennis Phillip, commended the young men on a job well done. Phillip stated: “We planned, we practiced, we executed and came out victorious. Please accept our sincere gratitude for your performance – you did an excellent job.”

Upon their return from the winning the Championship in Antigua, the elated Cricketers were welcomed into the VIP Lounge at the R.L.B. International Airport. However, an official cocktail event will be convened in August where all cricket stakeholders will be invited to meet and greet the players and to celebrate the win.

Vice President of the St. Kitts Cricket Association, Charles Morton, also added his congratulatory remarks to the ambassadors by saying: “Continue to make the best of the years you have a Cricketer. By consistently winning, you are proving that you are skilled enough to be selected for the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots Team and even for the West Indies Cricket Team. Morton continued: “Bond with each other and pressure each other to be disciplined in the game and in your personal lives. Cricket is not just for fun - you can make a decent salary from the game and be able to take care of your responsibilities.”

Percy Daniel, in providing feedback on winning the Tournament, as Team Manager of the Senior Cricketer, expressed how proud he was of the young men; and hastened to add that training and winning more trophies can only be achieved if the players are provided with the proper equipment (for example nets to contain the balls during practice) and a‘home’ where a proper pitch is maintained, clubs can have mini tournaments and cricket supporters can be comfortable and safe.

Phillip’s response to this passionate concern for better facilities was that discussions are currently being held with the Government whereby a request was submitted to lease the Conaree Cricket Ground to the SKCA. This complex is centrally located, well-lit and has a large under-utilized dining room which could be partially converted as a gym for the Cricket Teams. In his closing remarks, President Phillip reminded the Team that: We [The Executive] can only advise, set goals and targets but you are the ones to achieve it.”

A 14-member delegation of the U-19 team is currently in Antigua for the Leeward Islands Tournament. That squad is being managed by Keithley Esdaile.  St. Kitts Cricket Association wishes the Under 19 players much success in this current tournament and future games.
