By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts- THE Federation’s female team competing at the 59th Caribbean Table Tennis Championships in Havana, Cuba were put to the sword on the opening day (Jul. 18) of the event.

Grouped with Jamaica, Cuba and Dominica W.I, team St. Kitts-Nevis opened action last evening and lost both of their matches.

They failed to register a victory in their individual games and went under to Dominica and Jamaica by the same score line, 3-0 in their best of five matchup.

Going up against Dominica in the first encounter, Angelisa Freeman served off for SKN in the opening match against Alliyah Prince. However, despite her valiant effort, Freeman was edged out three sets to two, 4-11, 9-11, 11- 3, 11-7 and 7-11.

Shaniqua Esdaille was defeated in four sets by Larrysa Dover - 11-7, 5-11, 11-5 and 11-3, while Dominica’s Gem Eloi  brushed aside Shania Harris in straight sets - 11-5, 11-7, 11-3.

In their second outing, team St. Kitts and Nevis had a more difficult challenge against a strong Jamaican line-up, being swept aside 3-0 while failing to take a set off their opponents.

Jamaica’s Brittany Murray took down Esdaile 11-3, 11-3, 11-6, while Freeman was looking to get over the line in her encounter against Onika Yanika Francis but fell agonizingly short in a 11-8, 11-7 and 11- 3 defeat.

Meanwhile, Shania Harris lost 7-11, 4-11 and 6-11 to Larissa McLaughlin to end play for St. Kitts and Nevis.

The string of losses has St. Kitts and Nevis at the bottom of the table in Group B with two points from their two matches.

They are now left to close out group play against host nation Cuba, before battling for placement in the consolation round of games.

That match is expected to get underway today at 11:00 a.m. Cuba time, where they will be playing on table one.
