GEORGETOWN, Guyana – PRISON Officials in Guyana are coming in for harsh criticism from the public after another prison break in the English-speaking South American country.

According to information obtained by SKNVibes, 13 inmates - all of whom were incarcerated for serious crimes - made good their escape late last evening (Jul. 23) from the Lusignan Prison on the eastern corridor of Georgetown.

Sources in Guyana confirmed to SKNVibes that it was not until during a head count early this morning that Prison Officers had realized 13 male inmates were missing.

Reports have surfaced that the men dug themselves out of a highly-fenced, pastured-makeshift prison that officials used to hold prisoners following the burning of the major holding facility in Camp Street, Georgetown.

It was earlier this month that the Georgetown facility went up in flames as some inmates had set afire several wooden structures in the compound with the aim of creating a diversion for their escape.

Police and soldiers had made good in their efforts to capture some of the escapees, but four of them are still on the lam and have now been joined by 13 others.

Many have taken to social media to express their dissatisfaction over this latest incident, with them calling for the Minister of Public Security, Khemraj Ramjattan, to resign.

Others have described the incident as “Prison Break #2”.

Media outlets in Guyana have listed the names of the 13 escapees as Clive Forde, Tishan McKenzie, Winston Long, Kerry Cromwell, Pascal Smith, Odel Roberts, Kendell Skeet, Paul Goriah, Jamal Forde, Jamal Joseph, Rayon Jones, Jason Howard and Shawn Harris.
It was just recently that the Minister had moved to Parliament to acquire funds to construct a temporary holding facility at the burnt located to house the prisoners.

This is the third time that inmates had staged daring escapes from prisons in Guyana.

Back in 2003, five notorious criminals had broken out of the Camp Street Prison, killing one Prison Officer and leaving his female colleague paralysed during the process. They had created mayhem during their reign of terror before being killed by law enforcement officers.
