Police unearth another pistol and ammo in Nevis

    CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – IN their continuous effort to make the twin-island Federation a safer place for citizens, residents and visitors, as well as to conduct business, members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force have removed yet another illegal firearm and a quantity of ammunition off the streets in Nevis.

     

    These recent finds occurred yesterday (Jul. 28) within the Cotton Ground community.

    According to a police communiqué, a Strategic Patrol by officers from the Division had discovered a .40 pistol and nine rounds of ammunition in that community, but no one was held accountable for the deadly illegal items. 

    This has been the second illegal firearm and ammunition discovered on Nevis over the past three weeks.

    Early Saturday morning (Jul. 8), while executing a search warrant in the Rawlins Village area for illegal firearms, ammunition and controlled drugs, officers had discovered one 9mm pistol, eight rounds of ammunition and a quantity of marijuana on a certain premises.

    Police had reported that they had detained five persons who were on the premises at the time of the discovery – two juveniles and three adults. However, only the adults were taken into custody and subsequently charged.

    Charged with possession of firearm, possession of ammunition, smuggling of firearm, possession of cannabis and possession of cannabis with intent to supply were Dwayne Freeman, Natasha Freeman, both of Rawlins Village, and Watisha Browne of Cole Hill.

    Yesterday’s discovery has taken to 29 the number of illegal firearms taken off the Federation’s streets for this year; six on Nevis and 23 on St. Kitts.

    Head of the Nevis Division, Superintendent Trevor Mills had commended members of the Strategic Patrol for making the discovery.

    “I want to commend our team for their continued vigilance. Our increased presence and operations in the communities are bearing fruits.”
