Grenadian wanted in St. Maarten nabbed in St. Kitts

By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A Grenadian, who is wanted by the St. Maarten Police Department for escaping lawful custody, was nabbed yesterday (Jul. 29) in St. Kitts by members of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF).

He is 38-year-old Kathron ‘Cuchi’ Fortune, whom police in St. Maarten said was residing on that island and had escaped from lawful custody on February 15, 2016. They also warned that he was considered armed, extremely dangerous and anyone seeing him should not try to apprehend him on their own.

This media house was informed that at approximately 3:30 p.m. on the days in question, Fortune was taken to a doctor’s clinic in Cay Hill when he managed to draw a firearm on the two guards who were with him at the time.

He reportedly took off on foot and was picked up by an unmarked vehicle, and had since been on the lam.

However, a press release from the RSCNPF said the fugitive was captured in St. Kitts yesterday morning (Jul. 29).

The release also said that prior to escaping from lawful custody, Fortune was suspected to be involved in a number of murders on that island.

He was captured by officers from District ‘B’ who had responded to the sighting of an unusual activity along the coastline in Cranstoun Bay, an area in the vicinity of Newton Ground.

Police said initial investigations determined that he had illegally entered the Federation and had in his possession a high-powered rifle and telescope, a bulletproof vest, a backpack containing a quantity of cured marijuana, hashish [a marijuana derivative] and a sum of US currency.

The Grenadian was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition. He was also charged with illegal entry into the Federation, possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana with intent to supply.

He was remanded at Her Majesty’s Prison and the police have indicated that other charges would be laid against him as the investigation continues.

The release noted that the authorities in St. Maarten were notified of his arrest.
