BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE 2017 IAAF World Championships will be held in London, England from August 4 to 13 and only one athlete was selected to represent the twin-island Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.

According to a release posted on its social media feed, the St. Kitts-Nevis Amateur Athletics Association (SKNAAA) disclosed that “Mr. Warren Hazel is the sole athlete selected to represent the St. Kitts and Nevis Amateur Athletic Association (SKNAAA) at the 2017 International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) World Championships, London”.

Hazel, who attends and competes for the University of Southern Illinois, has produced competitive timings in recent meets and, based on those performances, was selected for the 400m event.

The SKNAAA statement noted that the young man has been making waves in the 400m event over the last five years and has improved steadily “year after year”.

Hazel also set new records in the National Junior, National Senior and National Indoor Records for the Federation of St. Kitts-Nevis.

“As recent as seven (7) days ago, he once again shattered his own National Record at the Blue Marlins Track and Field Classics, Nassau, Bahamas. His participation at this meet was made available through a sponsorship grant presented to the SKNAAA by the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture in the Federal Government of St. Kitts-Nevis,” the release read.

In London, Hazel will be joined by coach and president of the S.L. Horsford’s Pace Setters Track Club, Lonzo Wilkinson.

Also journeying to London will be SKNAAA President Glenville Jeffers, who will be attending the 51st IAAF Congress scheduled for August 1–2.
