BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Traffic Department of the Royal St. Christopher-Nevis Police Force has released its traffic management plan for the upcoming St. Kitts Music Festival.

Set to occur on the nights of June 25-27 (Thursday to Saturday), the 13th edition of the Festival will feature performances from popular local, regional and international musical artistes.

The event normally draws a large turnout, particularly from nationals residing overseas and tourists who are eager to experience the electrifying nights of musical entertainment.

In light of the increased pedestrian and vehicular traffic, the Traffic Department has issued the following restrictions for those nights. Traffic will flow northward towards the Moravian Church on Victoria Road, and motorists will only be allowed to travel southwards along East Park Range between Taylor’s Range and the Basseterre High School.

Additionally, Lozack Road will be closed to all vehicular traffic and the general public will not be permitted to park on this road, as well as on Victoria Road and East Park Range.

Instead, the grounds of Basseterre High School (BHS) have been designated as the public’s official parking area.

The portion of Victoria Road between Lozack Road and the service station will be designated for taxi parking only, while the area of Lozack Road between Victoria Road and Blue Belle Alley will be designated for street vendors. Residents of Victoria Road with vehicles must park on Nevis Street or Seaton Street, and Hart Street is the assigned parking area for residents of Lozack Road.

A communiqué released by the Department noted the following exceptions: “Festival Committee members and sponsors will use the parking area at Warner Park in the vicinity of the tennis court and Carnival City. Members of Cabinet will be permitted to park on Hart Street. The Governor General will park on Lozack Road. Other persons with VIP car passes will park at the BHS in the area of the auditorium.”

The communiqué ends with a plea by the Department urging all motorists to cooperate with the officers on duty and to comply with the signs and directions given.
