Greenlands resident charged with guns, ammo and cocaine possession

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE man who was apprehended in the Southeast Peninsula late Saturday afternoon (Aug. 6) and taken into police custody for alleged cocaine possession, and later that evening fingered in the discovery of two illegal firearms, ammunition and a quantity of cocaine in Greenlands, was recently charged for the offences.

     

    According to a police report this morning (Aug. 10), the man, Inon Alexis Nias of Greenlands was charged with “possession of two firearms and an assortment of rounds of ammunition, possession of cocaine and two counts of possession of cocaine with intent to supply to another”.

    Late Saturday afternoon, during the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force’s ongoing operation codenamed ‘Mid Sweep’, members of the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force were conducting a Stop and Search Operation in the South East Peninsula.

    The soldiers had stopped a vehicle and a search of it resulted in the discovery of 29 dime bags of cocaine.

    As a result of that discovery, Nias was taken into custody and later that evening members of the Special Services Unit and the Anti-Drug Unit) had executed search warrants on properties in Newtown and Greenlands, which were identified as his residences.

    At the Newtown property, the officers reportedly discovered a large quantity of marijuana and a search of the property in Greenlands resulted in the find of a Smith and Wesson .40 pistol, a .40 pistol, a quantity of assorted ammunition and a large quantity of cocaine.

    The police report however did not state if charges were laid against him for the marijuana allegedly found at his Newtown residence, neither did it say if he were on bail or remanded at Her Majesty’s Prison.
