Visiting Nevisian allegedly beaten and robbed on homeland

    CHARLESTOWN, Nevis - REPORTS reaching this publication state that a Nevisian, who resides with his family in St. Croix, is currently hospitalised after he was allegedly beaten, robbed and left tied up on a street in Nevis.

     

    The man’s name was given as Elmos Wilkes by a family member who resides in New York.

    “He was found tied up on the road. He is in a mess in hospital. His face is swollen and he has lost his teeth,” according to the family member, who claimed that he is suspected to have been beaten and robbed between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, August 8 and 9 respectively. 

    The family member further stated that Wilkes had returned to Nevis for a funeral and had decided to stay on in celebration of Culturama 43.

    When this media house contacted the Police Public Relations Office, Superintendent Lyndon David confirmed that “a man was in the Alexandra Hospital nursing injuries to his face”.

    David explained that at approximately 3:15 a.m. on Wednesday, officers at the Charlestown Police Station had received a report that a man was seen lying on the road in the vicinity of the Elquemedo T. Willet Park in Charlestown.

    He said the officers responded immediately and found the man in the said position as reported.

    “The officers observed that the man had sustained injuries to his face and they summoned an ambulance which took him to the Alexandra Hospital, where he remains as we speak.”

    Questioned on the claim that the man was tied up, Superintendent David said that the officers did not find him bound in any way.

    In response to the question of the incident was suspected to be an act of robbery, David could not confirm but pointed out that investigations are ongoing and details of the findings would be made public on completion.
