T&T, Guyana and Windward Islands victorious

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – FRESH off their three-day title, Guyana opened their bid to repeat as the Regional U-19 One Day 50 Overs champions with a convincing 148-run victory over the ICC Americas/Canada at Verchild’s yesterday (Aug. 15).

     

    Taking first strike, Guyana posted a formidable 295 for 7, with Kevin Sinclair stroking a brilliant 82 from 116 balls and Raymond Perez chipped in with 58.

    In reply, the ICC Americas/Canada could only muster a paltry 147 for 9.

    Adhihetty Bhavindu was the lead scorer with 36, as Guyana’s Bhaskar Yadram ending with 4 for 24 from 10 overs.

    The Guyanese openers led with a brilliant 116-run partnership, which laid the foundation for the huge total.

    In other action, home side Leeward Islands went under to Trinidad and Tobago at the Molineaux ground.

    Taking first strike, the Leeward Islands batting struggles continued as they were bowled out for 122 inside 40 overs with UVT Smith knocking up 33 runs from 56 balls.

    In reply, Trinidad and Tobago strolled home ending on 124 for 3 in 21.5 overs, to win by seven wickets.

    Meanwhile, Windward Islands saw off Jamaica in another low scoring encounter, this time at the Conaree ground.

    Winning the toss, the Jamaicans opted to take first strike which proved to their detriment, as they quickly found themselves 97 for 7 and were later bowled out for 140.

    In reply, Windward Islands captain, Emmanuel Steward guided his team to victory with 76 from 56 balls – consisting of 5x4s.

    Action continues tomorrow with Barbados vs. Trinidad and Tobago at the Conaree ground, and Leeward Islands will square off with Windward Islands at the Molineaux ground, while Jamaica and the ICC Americas/Canada will clash in St. Paul’s.

    Guyana has the bye for the second round as the action bowls off from 9:00 a.m.
